Gait Analysis for Injury Prevention

In most cases running injuries are unilateral, with pain presented asymmetrically. With an imbalanced stress load on the right vs left legs, imbalanced bio-mechanics are likely present and for this reason a thorough analysis of the entire kinetic chain (the movement patterns of the entire body) is conducted. Below lists components of the Gait Analysis for Injury Prevention:

Primary tests and components:

arch movement and girth measurements
static posture assessment
flexibility/mobility
symmetry of mechanics on Optogait
nueromuscular control
trunk, hip, and knee stability
right to left strength comparisons

Please read through and spend time with the following - gait analysis prerequisite

day of

Allow 75 minutes for your appointment. Be sure to read the day of logisitics no later than 2 days before your analysis.

CAP

After the testing is completed the results will be reviewed and your Corrective Actions Program will be sent via email in 1-2 business days. Our goal is that each athlete has a clear direction on what they need to do to improve, thus unlimited email/phone support is provided for the first 4 weeks after your analysis.

Re-test

In most cases you will have new habits, routines, and exercises to begin encorporating into your program. In most cases expect 3-6 weeks for noteable improvement. When you have made sufficient progress with the Corrective Actions Program, a 30-40 minute re-test will be scheduled to ensure improvement is being made and to make adjustments as needed.
cost - $180

Gait Analysis for Performance

Correct training, proper nutrition, availability to train, genetics and pyschological disposition are key factors that contribute to a runners performance. For some, though, improper and inefficient running form serves as constant barrier to progress. This gait analysis is intended for runners who are injury free and are interested in learning whether or not holisitic adjustments in their gait (such as force output, direction of force, range of motion, stride rate) are needed, and if so, how to improve upon these. Below lists components of the Gait Analysis for Performance:

Primary tests and components:

outdoor video recordings at varying angles and speeds
indoor treadmill video
strength and stability tests
power and muscle stiffness tests
symmetry of mechanics on Optogait

Gait Analysis for Injury Prevention and Performance

This is BRC's most complete analysis, combining the tests and assessments of the Injury Prevention and Performance protocols. Participants are expected to be healthy and able to run pain-free, as well as conduct more dynamic movements such as jumping, squatting, lateral running, etc.

Primary tests and components:

arch movement and girth measurements
static posture assessment
flexibility/mobility
symmetry of mechanics on Optogait
nueromuscular control
trunk, hip, and knee stability
right to left strength comparisons
power and muscle stiffness tests
indoor treadmill video
outdoor video recordings at varying angles and speeds

Home/Remote Gait Analysis for Injury Prevention

This is the best option for those unable to come to the BRC Gait Analysis Lab. Through video calls, regular email support, detailed descriptions, and clear instructions, the vast majority of bio-mechancial and/or musculoskeletal dysfunctions can be identified and improved through the home/remote analysis.

How it works

send in your videos

With your phone or computer take videos of yourself running (instructions for videos) and send to admin@bostonrunningcenter.com through filemail.com.
get on the foamroll

Compare right vs left on the foamroll throughout the body and have your results sent in before your initial video call. Here are the Instructions for pliability self-check. (If you do not have a foamroller please consider picking one up. We recommend 3 ft long, 6" diameter, high density - like this one. If you can not pick one up not a problem, we will be able to deduce if it is needed through the analysis.)

video calls

We then have a 30-45 min video call. During this call we will be asking you to perform various tests of strength, stability and coordination, real-time while on the call. We will also demonstrate live how to perform these tests.
Corrective Actions Program

After the video call your Corrective Actions Program (CAP) will be sent via email in 1-2 business days. The CAP is then adjusted and advanced based on your progress over the course of 4 weeks.
weekly video calls

With weekly 15 min video calls we can check-in on your progress and adjust your program accordingly. This service is provided for 4 weeks.

Military

This analysis is for those looking to improve their time in the running test, in order to attain or retain status in the US Armed Forces or other civic position. When the analysis is complete, and the corrective actions program is provided, participants should plan for and expect at least 12 weeks for marked improvement in their performance.

Primary tests and components:

static posture assessment
flexibility/mobility
symmetry of mechanics on Optogait
basic single leg stability and stiffness
run test - participants can choose from 800 meter, 1.5 mile, 2 mile or 3 mile test
program discussion and 12 week daily training schedule

getting started
To move forward with an analysis please send in your availability through the scheduling form below.

day of

On the day of your analysis be sure you are feeling fresh and ready, so avoid anything strenuous the day of or day before. Be sure to wear short, tight clothes if possible and wear the same or similar shoes that you would wear during your employer's fitness test. Allow 75 minutes for the analysis.

12 week program

After the testing is completed you will receive a 12 week daily program outlining the specific runs you are to complete. Allow up to 2 business days to receive this program. A 10-15 min phone call is provided with your administrator to discuss this program.

homework

Along with the 12 week program, ancillary exercises will also be given based on the results of your analysis. This often entails daily work or habits to help build an injury-resistant and more efficient gait pattern.
cost - $230
Plan on 40-60 minutes for a re-testing session. Only the tests where the athlete was below the norms will be administered, as well as additional tests as needed. Adjustments and additions to the program will be given based on the results of these tests.
